We’re pleased to announce that 50 organizations will receive funding through our 2019 Community Health Impact program! The funded projects align both with our mission of improving health and wellness of Michigan residents, as well as with one of our eight focus areas. The awards range from $15,000 to $100,000, for a total of over $4 million in new investments.

“These projects are diverse in geography, target population, focus area, and scope,” said Health Fund program officer Megan Murphy. “They are connected through their potential for lasting positive health impacts and ability to address localized health needs.”

The projects are top tier in their innovative approaches to Michigan’s most pressing health challenges. For example, Great Lakes Recovery Center in Marquette will be using their $41,357 to provide support for pregnant women and new mothers of drug-exposed infants. GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit will receive $30,000 to provide fitness training to adults and teens with Down syndrome. And a new approach for homeless shelters: the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County will be introducing a nationally recognized recuperative care program for homeless older adults discharging from hospitals, with a $100,000 grant.

Each selected project covers one of eight focus areas: infant mortality, health services for foster and adopted children, wellness and fitness programs, access to healthy food, behavioral health services, technology enhancements, health-related transportation services, and foodborne illness prevention.
